Outdrive cleaning suggestions

My boat sits at a marina dock in Lake Erie all summer and now thats over I am in process of cleaning before storage. What is best to use on the outdrive, its got a lot of buildup from water and nothing seems to shift it, Also what can be done to protect it while its in water next year?

CLR lime / calcium remover--follow directions on the bottle--it is acidic and must be rinsed off promptly

I clean my drive off with THIS stuff. Seems to work pretty well and isn't overly harsh.

I'm not sure what to put on it while in the water. I would think just scrubbing it with a brush every so often would do the trick ... but Erie can get a little "funky" sometimes.
