outdrive compatability

I have a MC-1 outdrive 22 8mercruiser on my 1979 Century boat. I picked up a parts boat that has a newer outdrive with the serial #6848368 stamped on the upper housing port side. When I tried using the sticky to identify the drive with just serial numbers, the only numbers I could match up seemed to be with an alpha 1 genII. Except that there are no letters before the number on the outdrive.

Can anyone explain this?

If I can identify the drive, I am wondering if I can use it on my old transom assembly?

thanks

Re: outdrive compatability

There is no way to identrify a drive by it's particular serial number in the stickies, only by the range your serial number falls in.
Your SN is all numbers and is for an 85 drive which would make it an MR.

Ayuh,... All of the MC-1s, "R"s, "MR"s, 'n Alpha 1s will bolt on....

Only a drive that was mated to the Same sized motor will be Geared correctly though...

Re: outdrive compatability

the MR drive came out of a 228 mercruiser so the ratio should be 1.5/1

thanks Bondo
