Drained the outdirve oil and it is chunky chocolate milk. Ordered a seal kit, still waiting for it.

In the meantime, can I run the motor in neutral to diagnose, adjust, etc. or will it screw up the impeller and outdrive??

Thanks.

No gearlube will screw up the outdrive. No water will screw up the impeller.

Haut Medic - I have the bad habit of taking things apart and forgetting how they go back together!!

I'm down in Puyallup, any recommendation for a good OMC shop in the area??

Also - My service manual says the gear drive should "Only be filled with OMC Hi-Vis gearcase lubricant", will any gear lube work? Does it have to be marine specific, I have 75-90 for a car rear end, will this work?

Thanks.

I am told by an OMC guy that they won't shift right unless you use the proper lube

You can use CRC hi Vis from Napa, they may have to order it.Or you can use Johnson Evinrude gearcase lube, The CRC stuff is listed as direct replacement for OMC hi vis. Some guys run the Mobil 1 GL5 75w90
