Hello All,

I have been taking my 74' Starcraft American 20 (165 MC-1) out and it has been running pretty good despite the "tick" it is making in the lower back part of the motor. My plans are to remove the motor in the fall and have it looked at and fixed by next spring.

Now I am noticing a very slow drip of outdrive fluid coming from one of the "water weep" hole near the bottom of the LU. I have not seen this kind of leak in any of my other LU's and I am hoping it will be an easy fix when I remove the LU for the season. I have added fluid to the LU before I went on vacation so now my concern is getting more peaked.

These old boats, so much fun but so much work!!

Most likely either the output shaft coming out of the upper, or the input shaft into the lower under the water pump. Either, or both, can be replaced by you when you split the halves.

Thank you both for responding.

I have has some experience splitting the upper and lower unit when I replaced the impeller. If I am going to split the two units, I would be better off replacing any of the gaskets that would stop the leak.

So I should order a seal for the output shaft and the input shaft for my 75' 165 MC-1 outdrive and hopefully that should do the trick:)

Thanks again, you guys are the best!!

Probably should take a look at the water pump base and make sure it is in good enough shape to reseal. Been a long time since I did an MC-1, but if I remember right it has a plastic pump base with the seal internal to it and an o-ring on the outside. Cheap enough parts to swap out as needed.
