outdrive goes up but not down own its own

1978merc 165 hp L6 165 outdrive , here is the problem , my outdrive will go up with a push of a button no problem,but going down it will move a very little with the switch but if you put pressure on it by hand it will go down with switch engaged.i got to looking around at the trim motor and noticed my starter was getting oily. hydrolic leak maybe and if so how to fix it and also how to add the fluid back into the resovoir. thanks

Ayuh,... Find the Leak,.... Replace the Line,... Fill it thru the Fill Screw,..
There should also be a little vent screw...

okay thats great bondo but , is there any bleeding to get any air out involved like the break system on your car?

Nope,... By the time you've cycled it about 10 or 15 times,... Recheck the oil level,...
The air will work it's way there...
