Pulled and took my 888 out drive apart as I have to replace the water pump and motor. From what I gather in my research, my lower unit seems to be an Alpha 1 (first gen) as it has no pre-load pin on the drive shaft and the cavitation plate is square. And my upper is an MC-1. Am I correct in what I am seeing in these photos and my terminology ?

So I now assume Alpha 1 (first gen) and MC-1 uppers/lowers are all interchangeable ? If not please set me straight. Now for the water pump I have to replace, is it the same pump in both lower units or are they different for each ? And I'm seeing that there is no difference in bellows between the MC-1 and Alpha 1 (first gen) drives correct ?`

Re: Outdrive ID Confirmation/Education

Yes you are correct.

Yes they are interchangeable, as a whole.... not parts internally. The impeller kit is the exact same EXCEPT for the water pump base. That is specific to which lower you have. You have to get the correct base, weather or not you have the preload pin or not. The rest of the kit is the same for both.

The bellows are the same as well.
