I have a 1987 4.3 OMC Cobra with overheating issues. Replaced impeller as well as the thermostat. I took it for another ride and it was still running around 180 -190. Got on it a little more and all of a sudden the RPM went through the roof and the prop quit spinning. The temp pegged the gauge at 240 and the smell of rubber and smoke was coming from the motor. I towed it back to the pier and started looking at things. Took off the impeller and noticed that the shaft is not spinning. When I put it in gear the prop is not spinning. Is the drive trashed?
