outdrive noise Alpha 1

43L. Alpha 1 1998 just installed new out drive. Adjusted alignment with proper tool. Tool slides in and out easily spline marks were uniform all around.
Problem is when I raised drive when drive,when it got about half way up it makes a binding noise for the remainder of the up travel. Does the same thing coming down until it is about half way down then the noise stops.
I assume this alignment an aligmnet issue but looking for other ideas.

Remove the rams and try to lift the drive by hand. If it`s east with no binding, cycle the rams . if you have/hear a binding condition then suspect the rams.If on the other hand it`s very difficult to raise the drive suspect gimbal housing hinge pin area tight from corrosion

Alignment will NOT cause your problem.
