Outdrive not going fully into gear- i think

I pulled the outdrive off of boat, in order to pull motor and replace freezeplug. Things seemed to go well, ha. Now in neutral things seem corrects, prop free spins either direction. In forward, the prop seems to be in gear when i try to turn prop--but when i turn the opposite direction it will turn; i can feel it click but it does turn.. In reverse it is the same as in forward, but opposite direction of engaged and being able to turn. 1 Did i make a mistake installing the shifter linkage and need to adjust or 2 did i do something wrong on the install-- i was carefull of the shifter linkage in the transom and the connection to outdrive. I did pull it back off and check for possible mistakes, i didnt see any- re installed and it still acts same way. Any help would be greatly appreciated by me and my 4 kids who are putting pressure on me to get it fixed-haha.

Normal. Check for leaks when you launch, then have fun!

That is good news..i guess the fact that the handle seems much harder to pull back into reverse..could possibly be my imagination.. maybe im just freaking out haha-- god i hope so. thanks u much for response.

Not in water yet, but seems to fully engage forward and reverse. Thanks for help there.
