Re: outdrive oil in bilge
I just had outdrive oil leaking into the boat, in fixing the outdrive to properly shim the upperdrive shaft and driven gear assembly the oil seal needs to be removed, in replacing the seal it went in hard, hit it with a screwdriver to seat it and pinched the seal assembly. there is also a O ring in the yoke assembly which was pinched. This let outdrive oil past the u joint into the bilge. mercrusier alpha outdrive with remote resevior. The remote saved the gears as the upper gears dont last long with out oil. the faster your go the more oil leaks. I ignored one pargraph in the manuel, <br />"for confidence in obtaining maximum service, replace all seal, o-rings, and gaskets." this means new one not just replace. cost a couple of fishing days.
