I have installed a new motor into my boat, the motor is a mercruiser 260. I was wondering how far does the outdrive shaft go into the coupler. My alignment is perfect. I used a proper alignment tool which goes in and out easily. The outdrive also went in with ease. When I look at the shaft fitted into the coupler I can see about 3/4" of the splines of the outdrive shaft visible. Is this normal ? this picture shows the shaft in the coupler

It doesn't go all the way in, if you didn't touch the transom or transom assembly you should be good

Thanks for the replies,
the shaft is greased. I did rebuild the transom. I used the exact same thickness as the original. Just wanted to make sure it was right as this is my first boat rebuild.
thanks again.:)
