Outdrive Swap for Volvo

Here's the scenario:

I own a 24 Bayliner Volvo Power with a dual prop out drive 280. Now I bought a 28 Bayliner also Volvo power with a 270-T out drive which is also Volvo. They are both V-8 5.7 and I am wondering how much work it will take to swap the out drives and install the 280 dual prop on the 28 footer, and which is the best way to go about it.

Thanks a lot for your help,

All you have to do is switch the lower units. Which also means reshimming the vertical shaft bearing in the intermediate housing. Not hard, to do, but it does have to be done.

Re: Outdrive Swap for Volvo

Thanks for your answer DonS, now will I see an increased performance on the 28 footer with the DP? Secondly, just in case my son in law wants to do this.. is it too hard to change the whole out drive from one to another being that the 280 was recently serviced and readjusted?

Thanks.

It will be like a completely different boat. My 27 Bayliner went 20 with a single prop. The DP it went to 30. Planes faster, less rpm for cruise. Better fuel milage.
You won't believe the difference. Well worth it.

Re: Outdrive Swap for Volvo

I've never seen a 270T, and a 270 doesn't have trim, only a mechanical lift for tilt.
The problem with changing the whole drive is the steering helmet. The 270 had a different style of attaching bolt for the helmet to the upper gear box, along with the fork being different for the 270T than the 280.
