outdrive swap?

I recently purchased a used but in good shape alpha one outdrive fro my boat,the other one was shot,the unit is the same unit but the cable that spins the engagement on the outdrive doesnt turn the new outdrive the same direction? the old outdrive turn the engagement to the right the new one to the left?what is the soultion? why arent they the same?do i need to reverse the cables?? anyhelp would be great

there both aplha one outdrives?same year also? the switch thats on the outdrive thats by the exaust,looks like a 90 it connects to the shift cable ...the old one turn right o engage and the new one turns left ??? is there something i need to change?also came off the same size and year engine?

What year? what engine?
Only if your replacement drive is a "counter-rotating" one
Only if the selector was installed wrong in the lower unit

1987 alpha one-1987 3.7 224ci 165hp/"470". didnt change anyhing took the old one off and put the replacement on?

hmmmm...wait a sec i replaced the impeller in the lower is there a chance i didnt put it back together right? how would i have known? al i did was seperate the units and slide the new impeller on and bolted it back up? what am i looking for ?

You probably dropped the lower in neutral. When you went to put it back it slid (like they always do and we expect from them) in to forward gear. Always take a MC off, or apart in forward gear.
