I just got a 1990 bayliner capri . It has a mercruiser outdrive with serial # OC887629 . The problem is someone has changed the lower unit . The one they installed is white . It has an cylindric area on each side that sticks out about 2 inches . It has a 1/2 inch hole that goes all the way through it . When the motor runs exhaust comes out of the holes . When the outdrive is raised the hydralic cylinders hit the two areas that stick out and become jammed . when lowered the areas hit the lower stops and doesn't allow the outdrive to go all the way down . My question is should I just cut off the interfearing cylindric areas and close up the holes or should I replace the lower unit . I cant find any info on the lower unit to know what it is and if it is compatable other than the two areas that stick out . Any info would be great thanks .
