i have an "81 cobia with a mercruiser 120. I also have an old 70's tri-hull parts boat with what seems to be the same upper and lower units.

The problem with the cobia is that it's running hot and it it will not accept full throttle. i got this boat earlier this year and it was not running when i got it. since, i have replaced the fuel pump and rebuilt the carb. I know the carb needs to be set but i cant seem to get it right.

I also have the feeling that the outdrive may be bad in the cobia. question:does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do with this thing? how do i go about determining if is should swicth outdrives and how do i keep this it running??

Re: Outdrive switch

running hot can be just the impeller in the drive or a clogged riser.
very early drives used a coarse spline between the upper and lower, late ones were a fine spline. uppers and lowers will not interchange is the spline is different
