outdrive trims DOWN but not UP

Folks,

I have a 2004 Chaparral 215SSI with 5.0 GL-D (carbureted) engine. I recently discovered that whenever I use the trim button on the throttle control handle I am not able to raise the outdrive UP to trim the boat, etc., but I can lower the outdrive. I also have a separate trim switch near the swim platform which works fine, e.g. movement of the outdrive moves both UP and Down on this switch. Also, the gauge on the dash seems to work OK whenever I use the 'rear-end' trim switch and also when I trim Down from the control handle. The owners / operators manual says to check for an inline 5A fuse on the remote handle. I took off the throttle control handle and looked inside but I couldn't find any 5A inline fuse. I checked for continuity of the switch at the throttle handle with my multi-meter and seemed OK. It would make sense to me that if the outdrive works fine using the 'rear-end' trim switch (as well as the gauge) then the motor should be fine and the problem should be in the trim UP line from the handle, Right? Does anyone know how to find the 5A inline fuse or where it's located? Is this a job I should attempt myself or should I just bring to the dealership. (I don't have faith in the dealership nor do I want to spend $100 for something I might be able to do myself.) Boat runs great otherwise.

Re: outdrive trims DOWN but not UP

Ok I will take a stab at this one?
on my boat the fuse for the trim is on the main wire that feeds the trim pump and it is a feed direct from the battery, I have seen an in line fuse also mounted on the side of the pump.
Clean your battery terminals and cable ends as I have had problems earlier this year.
check the connections at the rear switch, as this is a possible place were the to switches meet( if one works why not the other ) and trace problem back.
trim gauges are a separete circuit I believe, and only work when the leg extends or lowers.
there is good info in the adult only stickeys
