1980 MC-1 drive.260v8.

trim goes up just fine. Wont go down, when it does go down it is very slow. Most the time it wont go down at all unless I push on it and help it down. Took the pump out of the boat and bench tested it and i get what looks like good fluid flow from both ports. I also cracked the lines loose at what looks like a valve that is controlled by the throttle. i get fluid from both of the lines, ( in and out). the pump I have has 1 braided steel line and 1 clear plastic line. No water in oil and oil was clean. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it. This dang thing is driving me nutty.

Hi, are both your rams(cylinders) in good condition,
Is the hydraulic oil tank full ?
No air in the system!
Nothing restricting the valve in any way?
If you disconnect the rams (both) you should be able to lift the outdrive up yourself all be it carefully.
Shouldn't take too much effort.
I had a same type of problem, but i just replace the hydraulic pump unit.

Hope you find your problem.

Well I think I got it...I changed the cylinders and now the drive goes up and down. I had a set of cylinders from an alpha one and they seem to be working just fine.. What would cause cylinders to do this? It almost seemed like they were trying to go up and down at the same time.. cuz when it did go down, when I let go of the down switch the drive would come back up a little bit.

Most prob the piston rings inside the cylinders may have be worn out, allowing oil past the rings which would account for the movement and the slow up/down motion of the out drive.
