Taking the boat to NC in June. "26' Wellcraft excel" launching out of Oregon Inlet. I am looking to catch grouper, cobia, red snapper, bluefish or anything else that will put up a fight.
I do have gps but I have not found any coordinates for artifical/natural reefs in the area.
The boat is set up w/cannon downriggers and plannerboards (we fish lake michigan for Salmon)
Could someone from the area help with reef or wreck coordinates? Are there any oil rigs offshore in NC?
Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Steve

An outgoing tide with an East wind can make it especially hairy. The shoals can also be tricky, make sure you follow the channel and/or other boats on the way out to the bridge.

Tight lines!

I have launched at oregon inlet before. You guys are right it can be brutal. I managed it in a 16' aluminum w/a 10hp honda and would not try it again now that I know about the inlet. I would have no problem taking a few people out with me that know the ropes.
Which reefs would you guys start at and what could we expect to catch? Also.... Are there any offshore oil rigs in Nc?

No oil rigs on the entire East Coast that I know of.

Can't help inshore fishing on the Atlantic side. If I'm inshore I'm in the Sound chasing Flounder, Drum and Trout. If I head out the door it's only to go fish the Blue water.

I feel if the fish are in the "blue water" then that is where we will head. If you know how to catch tuna, marlin and sailfish we would be glad to have you on board!

What type of bluewater gear do you have? I would study up on rigging ballyhoos. There are many ways, but it isn't too hard with a little practice. I would also have an arsenal of different colored skirts and a couple of daisy chains. Pork rinds work well for the dolphin, which should be closer to shore that time of year. Just hook a strip onto a 7/0 hook behind a skirt for color. They rarely come off the hook and entice the dolphin to hit the lure again and again.

There are some great videos on youtube for rigging hoos.

Typically I run an abu garcia big game 10000 with a kunnan 10' heavy rod and 80 lb power pro line. I have alot of muskie gear but know nothing about rigging ballyhoo. Porkrind is no problem but I dont have any skirts or daisy chains.
If we could catch dolphin or cobia I would be more than satisfied.

thanks Steve

That's surf fishing equiptment. ;)

A good tuna, billfish or a big biter for that matter, would make quick work of that combo. I would suggest sticking with bottom fishing unless you can round up some heavier stuff.

I would be good with bottom fishing if I knew which wrecks/reefs could produce some good fish

You don't even need to find alot of wrecks/reefs. Just keep an eye on your fishfinder and look for ledges, drop-offs, and anything else irregular on the bottom. Also look for anything floating on the surface. Even an old cooler lid can hold small dolphin under it. If you can find weed lines definitely throw some chum and see what lurks underneath. This is a fun way to fish and you may find a bunch of schoolies to bail to. Action packed if you can find them.

You can never appreciate how flawed that logic is until you hook into something that weighs #50 that fights back.

A #50 offshore fish is small. An average sized Blue fin or even a Yellow fin tuna for that matter, would make very, very quick work of that tackle. That tackle is not made to deal with fish that have the power and acceleration that these fish are capable off. You hook into a nice Smoker King or a big Wahoo and they?ll melt the spool bearings right out of the side plates of your reel.
