Outlook Express blocking attachments.??

OE blocks some email attachments that I receive from various known sources. There must be some settings that control this. The latest one to be blocked is an MP3 file, from a friend.<br /><br />It displays the following message, in a little yellow band, at the top of the open email header:<br /><br />"OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your email: THEQUI~1.MP3"<br /><br />What basis is OE 6 using to block an attachment and what can I do about it. I looked in the Security tab, in options, under Tools, but nothing there made sense to me. If it makes any difference my security level, in Internet Explorer is set to medium.

Hi,<br /><br />Try this....select Options from the Tools menu, click on the Security tab, and uncheck the box that says "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus". Once you click on OK, you should be able to open your attachments without any further trouble.<br /><br />Hope that helps. The new Outlook sets this as default to block stuff. It's a pain.

If you are running a virus program you should still set it up so it scans incoming and outgoing emails. One problem with this is that it takes forever for the email to open or send.

There is an easy way to view the attachment without disabling your virus protection. When you get an email with an attachment that OE will not allow you to open...simply click "Forward" as if you were going to forward the email to someone else. The attachment will open out of the "forwarded" email. The better solution is to just switch to Mozilla Firefox/Thunderbird:)
