I have a 1996 Ranger 482v bass boat and trailer. I was towing the boat home and upon arrival I went to back up the boat and the trailer axles locked up on me. I thought that the trailer power plug had come undone and after adjusting it, I backed the trailer up and parked.

I got out and observed that the grease in the trailer axles was oozing out and that it appeared very hot.

My question is! What happpened? I only backed up about 15 feet. What are my options. Its crappie season and I need my boat.

Thank you.

Re: over heated trailer axle

You have a bad wheel bearing or the brakes have been dragging on the trailer. It is time for removal of the hub and bearings for inspection and a thorough check of the brake system.

I totally agree with the above advice. No short cuts just because the fish are running. I'm sure the wheels were hot long before you backed up the 15 feet.
