Have a 140hp OMC I/O, 1981 Stern Drive.

Getting ready for season, changed oil, turned over no problem, than few minutes later the temperature got really hot. Turn engine off.
Replaced the thermastat, tried again, still temperature was rising. Turned off. Thinking is it in the Stern Drive. Anyone need help. The manual I have does not show detailed pictutes of the Stern Drive.

Re: over heating

Did you have water hooked up to the drive? If not, you burned up your raw water pump impeller for sure. Hard to say what else, possibly exhaust hoses. How long did it run with no water?

Re: over heating

I did have the water flush ears hooked up to the drive. Had engine running for about 4 to 5 minutes. So still need help.

How hot did it get? Are you sure the raw water pump is ok?

I am still very new to this boating stuff. So bear with me, when I ask where is the "raw water pump impeller "? located.
Is this a job that need a mechanic? What knis of cost am I looking at to fixing this problem?
