Bayliner Capri 18 foot 3 inch with a 3.0l runing a 14 and 3/8" X 21 prop. Lightly loaded doggy hole shot running 5100rpms. Will check gps on speed this weekend. But if the tach is correct my rps are too high. Kinda of surprsing on a 3.0l engine. Wonder if my tach is off. I want better hole shot. Dont care much about speed. Want to go to a 4 blade aluminum. Do you think a 4 blade 21 pitch will bring my rpms down in the acceptable range 4200-4800?

I think I would varify your tach first. The likelyhood of
a 3.0 w a 21" pitch overeving is pretty slim. You may be able to borrow a shop tach or get a tech to go with you.Get us your gps speed that may give a clue to your rpm till you get it checked. If your in rpm range closer to 4800 a 20" 4 blade
should give you good hole shot, easier to control cruising speed, less vibration,
better control on plane and at the dock.Probably lose 2 to 3 mph.

Re: Over-Propped 3.0l Huh?

I have a 17ft 3.0L open bow.I had a 3 blade 21 pitch, hole shot was
terrible. Top speed was 40mph and rpm's were 4400 max.
I changed to a 4 blade 16 pitch hole shot was excellent but the top
speed was only 23 and the rpm's would go over 5200. Not good.
I settled on a 4 blade 18 pitch top speed is 32 and rpms are 4800 max.

I used pirahna props they have an exchange program!!!!
