Overfill/Primer

Today I went to take the boat out for a nice day in the beautiful Western Washington Sun, and ran into a tricky little problem. I just finished putting in a new gas tank last week, and today was the first day I filled it all the way up. Before I have been putting in just enough fuel for what I need, but today I did the full 25 gallons. When I was filling, I accidentally let a little come up through the tank vent hose and out the vent. Once I stopped pumping, it went back down the hose and I checked to make sure that it was all out, and it was. I figured it was a little burp or hiccup and continued as normal. when I went to launch, it felt like the primer bulb wasn't getting any gas. I went through two batteries trying to get it to start, and ended up going home instead. Why would it do this? I HIGHLY doubt it is a clogged pickup tube, as the tank is barely a week old, and has only had two installments of 7 gallons in it. I also tried removing the gas cap in case the vent hose was somehow clogged or full of gas; same result. Ideas? Thanks

Re: Overfill/Primer

remove the inlet fitting on the tank itself. there is a check valve there (in the inlet hose barb) that can get stuck. they are called anti siphen valve, but to me they are just a major pain in my ---.
they have caused me more than one headache just as you describe.
outboards generally dont pull fuel hard enough to open them once they have gummed up. i pull them out first thing. my tanks are all lower than the powerhead so it wont siphen anyway. jerry
