Re: Overhaul kit

The part in the advertisment that scared me a little was the part saying, "The above kits can be modified for your particular application". I don't want to modify. I want to know the parts are the correct parts/gaskets for the job.

Why not check in with a local Bomby dealer and get prices. You may not need pistons and all that anyway.

Why are you rebuilding anyway? Engine blow?

Re: Overhaul kit

hello
looks like a fairly comprehensive kit. what they mean by modified is they will add or subtract components to the kit as requested. I would ask what brand parts are being supplied. I have used hundreds of sierra pistons with no problems but I wont use the sierra head gaskets anymore due to an extreme amount of failures 2 years after the overhaul. seems the steel between the gasket materialrusts away in salt water.
good luck and ask questions then post usbackwith your results.

Re: Overhaul kit

Had one piston meltdown and after tearing down found the other three had some gaulding. I took these to three different mechanics and all said not to use the other three. I was not sure myself because there wasent much damage to the other three. The rings seem to move freely. After hooning I took the Powerhead to a machinest and had it checked with a micrometer and all was OK The one I had to hoone the most was only .002 larger than the rest still within standard bore specs. So according to them I should not reuse the other three with slight dammage. What do yall think?
Thanks
Hooked

Hey Hooked,
How ya be?
If the three old pistons look ok, use them, replace the other three and re-ring all six.

c/6
Hooty

Re: Overhaul kit

I would use new ones because you will ask yourself in 4 years from now when other pistons have ringfailure why didn't i replace them all?

Re: Overhaul kit

Thanks for the info. I belive I will go ahead with all four new pistons. I talked with a guy at the website I posted earlier and he said they would use the brand of my preferance. Only question now what brand on the individual parts.
Thanks
Hooked
