overheat alarm buzzing

Hi Guys,<br /> Hope I can get some help,the overheat alarm went off on my motor,1995 force 70hp while I was ideling at the dock,I was pumping<br />water, I turned off the motor,waited 5 Min.,<br />started back up,no alarm,ran ok for rest of day. Should I change water pump? motor 6 yrs old, if so WHERE should I begin, am handy but never done anything like this before.<br />Will Gladly accept any advice. Thanks Paul.

Greetings, Paul.<br /> If the impeller hasn't been changed in 6years, it is 4years overdue. It is an involved procedure to change, but the average shade tree wrench can handle it with the shop manual in one 8hour or less shift.<br />After that, it will only take an hour or so,start-to-finish.<br /> If you have ever removed a riding lawnmower deck to replace belts and bearings---Or put a new set of brake pads in your car/truck, you can do this blindfolded....Allmost.<br />It's allways worth it to check the lower unit lube for signs of water and wear while you have it down. Many many times, you can kill two birds with one stone by catching things before they catch you.
