Hi guys... I have a quick question for you all.
As most of you know i have been working on my Johnson 1972 50hp electic shift. I have the motor runinng very nicely now thnaks to your help.
Well. Today I was doing just a clean up of the motor and I found that it appears that the overheat alarm buzzer/ light isnt there.. I am awaiting my workshop manual from good old amazon.. not arrived yet..
Well anyway... I see a brown wire coming from the engine which is the temp sender... Ok heres my question.. Am i right in assuming that the switch earths itself to the engine to complete the circuit when it opens due to heat . So i attach a buzzer to this wire and the second connector on the buzzer connects to a live feed. ( live when the engine is energized..) ..
The reason i ask is that .. after tracing the wires i see that the control box is from an earlier motor a 69 or 70 and it was spliced in but the waring light buzzer isnt there. Yep spliced has i traced the wires i found a bulge in the harnes hidden in the gunwal on close examination i found it was a full splicing of the wires.. ... )
I appreciate all of you help.... can i actually take a fused feed direct from the battery to this buzzer??? I have a battery switch to turn of the battery .. or would it be better to take from a live feed to the ignition switch ??

It doesn't matter where you get power from as long as power is on only when the ignition is on or the "Master" switch is on. The buzzer should work fine as you indicated and yes, the temp sender does provide an earth connection for the brown/tan wire on an overheat condition.
