overheat alarm wiring

Have a couple questions regarding the overheat alarm on my 89 OMC 115. So it originally had the 3 wire alarm which ended up being faulty so I cut it out and bought a 2 wire piezo alarm to take its place, I have 12 v at the purple wire but when I ground out the tan at the block the alarm doesn’t go off. Should there be 12 volts at the tan wire? Down by the bullet connectors. Thanks

The purple wire leading from the ignition switch to the horn should have 12v applied to it ONLY when the key is in the ON or START position. That purple wire should be connected to one of the horn terminals.

The other wire connected to the remaining terminal of the horn should be a TAN wire. If the TAN wire is grounded at its other end, the horn circuit is complete and the horn should sound. If not, reverse the wires at the horn terminals as the horn may be wired in such a manner that it sounds ONLY when voltage flows in one particular direction.

A;ways possible you bought a faulty horn though.

Down by the bullet connectors?? <-- No idea what that means.
