'97 Rude SPL 50HP. Overheat alarm chirps and goes away. Then it will randomly go off with the loud wail. I have verified that the block temp is not exceeeding the operating temp when it does this. I have no blockages that I could find in the motor. My best guess is the thermostat but how do I confirm? What is the best way to approach this?

Re: Overheat Alarm

if you are not exceeding the op temp, the tstat is operating properly. the heat sensor or the alarm, could be shorting, or bad. are you sure it is the overheat alarm?

Re: Overheat Alarm

Now that is a thought. The periodic loud solid alarm (beep) is rare (and constant) but I get a constant low audible beep every second or so and periodic (comes and goes) as well. But more common and frequent than the other. The motor was originally equipped with and oil pump and tank but that was disconnected before I bought it. Almost sounds as if alarm is tripping on that or bad wiring.

Does anyone have anything else that I should be checking? Thanks.
