Hello everybody,

I have a 2004 evinrude FICHT RAM 200 HP, last Sunday it suddenly shuts a 4000 RPM after one hour running. There was 3 alarm lights on the RPM gauge "no oil" "hot" and "check engine". I had to wait 20 minutes with the engine cover removed before it restarts. I then get back without problems until I shut the engine. When i turned the key on again after 10 min i had the 3 lights again "no oil" "hot" and "check engine" ... Had to wait 20 minutes, the lights had turned off and then it started.
It's strange to have the "no oil" AND the "Hot" alarm a the same time ... i think it maybe a sensor problem, or thermostat that doesn't open enough or the RPM gauge itself ? Can somebody help me on that problem and give me some advices on how to check all that. I would love having the software and cable to read the error code as i live on an island and it's very difficult to have an appointment with the evinrude dealer here. Thanks for your answers.

Cheers.

Franck.

The "three light salute" is the symptom of an intermittent part inside the EMM, the engine computer. As the internal component cools down, the motor will start up again. You can get a new or factory rebuilt EMM through an Evinrude dealer or contact dfitechnologies.com for repair of the EMM.

Thanks seahorse for this fast answer ! I wouldn't have incriminate the EMM in first but effectively, The 3 lights are always on, it doesn't blink, and there is no sound alarm, When it's cold enough the motor start again. I will try to get another EMM for testing before sending mine 4000 miles away ...

Re: Overheat AND no oil on ficht RAM 2004

Hello everybody,

THE only solution i found after 6 months of investigation with ALL the mechanic i could find, reading thousands of pages in forums, even the local dealer could not answer clearly on that problem.

i have sent the EMM to DFI TECHNOLOGIES (cost me 200 $ for shipping the EMM with fedex and 700 $ for repair and shipping back). they made the repair in a few days and called me when it was done, I had to wait 1 month with the shipping time ... I was REALLY happy when John from DFI called me to say my EMM was effectively faulty and that they had rebuild it. I only had to plug it back and start the engine, no need to recalibrate or anything.

I have to precise that my battery was not in good condition or maybe too small for the 200 ficht when the EMM died. It's very important to now that a 200 Evinrude needs at least 800 Cold cranking amperes for a good start, I have learned from that (too late) and now plugged a new OPTIMA red that deliver 912 Amp and a second battery only for the equipement.

A dead or inapropriate battery can kill an EMM

Here is the solution i found and i'm really satisfied with DFI and their job, they saved my evinrude and it had never run greater than today, I used to run at 5700 RPM a full speed, i'm now at 6500 RPM and the motor runs like a swiss clock.

i wanted to share my experience on that problem as there is a lot of people that encounter the same syndrom, i hope it will help you.

ps: i have no link with DFI, i'm just a very happy customer :)

Cheers from New-Caledonia & thanks to i-boat forum contributors that convinced me to send my EMM for repair.
