Have a 2007 200hp Yamaha outboard bought new in 2009. Ran fine 2009. Took out 1st time 2010,and after idling for 10 minutes, idled out to no wake and jumped on it. Went right to half speed and alarm was screaming. Shut down engine and checked for blocked intake. Nothing found so I started back up and ran fine rest of the day with no problems rest of year, unless I did something stupid like run aground. Just took out 1st time this year on Feb 14, and after idling around for 15 minutes alarm went off again. Shut it down for 10 minutes and ran fine for rest of the day. Went back out Fri to work on electronics and ran up to 45mph with no problems. Don't know what rest of year will bring but starting like last year. Only seems to do this after sitting over winter. Mechanic does not find anything wrong. Appreciate any direction anyone can point me in. Thanks

Re: overheat

Simple, you posted your question in the J/E forum and an admin moved it here (Yahaha).

Thanks Jim. Now it makes sense. Let's hope we can find a solution to the guy's problem. Unfortunately, I don't know the answer.

Re: overheat

boobie I assume so because the overheat lite comes on and mechanic said computer showed overheat that I could not account for by running aground. Might also say that I seem to have a fluctuating water pressure prob. Low pressure equates to low volume from pisser. When pressure is normal pisser squirts like crazy.Low pressure does not normally create alarm. Seem to have normal pressure 75-80% of the time. Again alarm only seems to happen 1st time out for year. Thanks for any input.

Re: overheat

If it was my mtr the next place I'd go is the water pump to make sure it's sealed properly and all parts are okay.
