overheat?

Hello,
I have a evinrude 110 hp, -89. When I was out for a ride last weekend, some alarm went off. Every 5-10 minutes after going 3/4 throttle the alarm went off. After a while the alarm stopped. Same thing repeated itself over and over. It sounds like the oil-alarm, but do the overheat alarm sound the same?

If it is the overheat, where should I start looking? The impeller is working as far as I can see. Can you check the thermostat, and how do you do that?

Thankfull for all help.

Re: overheat?

Hey asok....here's what your alarms sound like.

Overheat....steady tone.
Low oil in reservoir....1/2 sec tone every 20 sec's. or so
Restricted or no oil flow...and urgent 1/2 sec tone every 1/2 sec.

Look at the back off the engine just below the exhaust cover. You'll see a slant shouldered box with a short rubber hose going to each head. This is where the t-stats are. If you decide to replace them, you can drop the pan a little to afford yourself some room there. It's tight but can be done.

Re: overheat?

Ok, thank's. Can it be anything else but the t-stats? I there a way to check if they are ok? As I said, the impeller seems to be working, at least at low speeds.

Re: overheat?

Hello from Sweden

Im not sure just would let you know.
Last summer i had an alarm prob.
Random short beeps from time to time (most at WOT)
Did track it down to be "a near" fuel restrict alarm (fuel restrict = steady tone)
Did clean the fuel filter and checked all the hoses.
Now the alarm is silent and nice.

Re: overheat?

Hello,
went out today for a short trip to check some things out.

It seems as the thermostats are working, when running at full speed there is much more water coming out of that hole than when idling. I also removed the cover and felt how warm the cylinders were. They were quite warm, you could touch them but not hold your hand on them. How warm are they supposed to be? Is there any way to check?

I didn't manage to locate the termostats today to check them out. Are they under that box with 10-20 bults? It seems as a big job to remove that box, is this correct?

Re: overheat?

One more question, where is the heat-sensors located? Is it the wire that goes into each cylindertop? Do you have to remove the top to change them?
