Overheating Maybe..Maybe Not

Not sure if this a problem or not. When I'm idling along or at slow speeds my temp gauge reads in the low mid 160s, but when I go faster it drops to a steady 140. My thought is that there isn't a problem since it stays pretty steady at these 2 temps. I have 160 degree T-Stat.

shouldn,t be a problem. certainly not an overheat situation. modern auto engines run over 200 deg's.

one thing I don't understand is the temp swing. yours is not the only one. it seems to be common as I read the forums. I suppose it could be those dinky little merc impellers just send up more cold water once they spool up.

In contrast, my OMC runs right at stat, once warmed up.
