Overheating problem?

I have a 1999 150 2 stroke that I just had the power head rebuilt. This is a carb engine with oil injection removed. I have mixed the oil heavy and run it only a few hours at lower RPMs to try and break it in. Today I put it in the water and ran for a longer time and picked the RPM up to around 3000 for a while. When I did this I got the overheat alarm. I stopped and cut it off for 30 seconds or so and it would start back up with no alarm. I did this two or three times. A new water pump was installed when the other work was done. It seems to have a good strong stream coming out when running. I pulled it out of the water and flushed the motor and the stream was almost to hot at first to hold my hand under it. What could be causing my problem? Thanks in advance for any help.
