Hi Folks!

I had an issue today with our 50s vintage Mercury Mark 55...

What are the symptoms of overheating in such an engine?

Thanks!
Dave

I don't think "Burnt Paint" is going to work for him as Mercury didn't start painting the block till 73-75 on.

I don't think any ofthem were painted until 73-75. All I have ever had was the inline 6 and one inline 4

Yes, the block is painted silver. And yes, it was running, all summer, in fact. But after about 15 minutes of 75% throttle, it suddenly lost power, and then stopped about 10 seconds later.
