i have what i believe is a 1963 Johnson Seahorse 5.5 hp that starts and runs great, but begins to product very hot water from the exhaust water port(obviously not the pee tube like newer motors) at the back of the motor. do motors this old have thermostats and can someone tell me where to find it?

I don't think that motor has a thermostat, you might want to check the impeller on the water pump.
