Ever since then, I have had problems with the Idiot light and temop alarm going off. It is used in saltwater exclusively (Ft Lauderdale). If I take off the cowling, the alarm stops. Put in on and it goes off. Is this a common problem with this unit? It runs at 170 degrees.

could be somethin simple like, check the ground straps, salt corodes connections, ground is the cause of a lot of headaches. wind around motor might shake wire and make connection, ?????????? maybe, good luck
