Overheating?

Can some one tell me how hot these are supposed to get?

I recently had replaced R+R elbows and manifolds because they were rusted out. Since replaced boat temp usually stays around 140-160, but when I touch elbows or manifolds they feel really hot but I can still touch them.

Normally, they would be very warm, not "hot".

I have a couple of questions......<br />When was the impeller replaced?<br />Have you had an overheat since that replacement?<br />The risers and manifolds look different, are they the same age? was risers or manifolds replaced and the others weren't?<br />What is that "Leak" looking mess under the riser/hose connection?

I have a new set of stainless steel manifolds (the outside walls are real thin) and I can put my hand on them right after a run and not have to move it until I want to. Your water temp sound about right.

140 is the point where things been to get uncomfortable on the palm of most people's hands<br />over 212 spit will fry<br />over 300 paint discolours

Running or just after shutting down? They will really heat up less than a minute after shut off(heat-sink). And boat motor temps have little to do with manifold temps.

They cost there weight in gold. Lucky they only weigh 12lbs each. <br /> I was in such a hurry to buy them this spring I nearly broke the bank but with gas prices so high now I cant afford to run the boat and still make the payments on them. The free interest rate on my credit card runs out in 4 months. I refuse to pay the interest and I am not asking wife to take money out of our savings for boat parts

DonS, the impeller was replaced along with the manifolds and exhuast elbows about two month ago. I don't know what leaked out, I think it happened when replacing manifolds. The risers where not changed. Should they have been? There has not been any leaking at that spot where the riser hose connects since change, what ever it was it was real hot. It left a permanent mark in paint of new manifolds. The risers get real hot real quick and so does the manifolds. I would say in about 5 min you can't touch but the boat temp stays at or below 160.

Is the boat raw water cooled or does it use a heat exchanger? Is there a lot of water coming out the exhaust when running? I am thinking that the elbow's are clogged or when the manifolds were mated to the elbows either the wrong gasket was used or installed improperly. A long shot happened to a set of elbows on a friends boat awhile back. They were clogged throughout except for a thin passage so the water could escape. So when you checked for water flow out the exhaust it seemed normal. Took the set apart and used a coat hanger to clean out the crap. There was a pile out of it when done and my buddy decided to chuck them and get new. Something you should have done when you got new manifolds. Even though the same exhaust and water go through the elbows as does the manifolds very few people replace them when getting new manifolds. I know my boat had two set of manifolds (that I know of) before I got it but again the elbows were original. When the last owner installed new manifolds the boat was somewhere around 25 years old and had been running in ocean water all its life. Guess what I had to replace before my first ride? Lucky I had a set in stock from my old boat. I just finally just got a new set of exhaust and yes they came with elbows.

Oops
