Had my sea pump replaced less than a year ago, wanted to take the boat out 1 last time before my surgery.......
Boat overheated. Only used it for about 5 to 6 times this summer due to injury.

Had my son remove Impeller, it looked good......EXCEPT......the center part was rubber and it had worn so that it wouldn't turn on spline.....
Noticed it said Johnson on it......gurrrrrrr....

After he installed the new impeller, " with a brass center" we cranked her up and she overheated.......guurrrrrr

Looks like next step is the thermostat....... I'm assuming....?

Was new to inboards and let a father and son repair shop do the work....I'm not a happy camper.......

Is there a chance he got the hoses backwards and it's not pulling water? Started her up with the muffs.......

Johnson is a manufacturer of sea water pumps

he could have gotten hoses swapped, there are arrows for both rotation and direction of suction/pressure

you could have sucked crud up the inlet and the power steering cooler could be plugged (need to back flush and check)

also, the water inlet casting needs to be checked, common for it to break off. need to pull the drive to check.

Thanks....I will have him recheck the direction tomorrow....I'm assuming the cooling system works similar to an auto, with out the radiator.....

Rechecked the hoses they look right.....pulled the inlet with muffs on no water is being pushed through, not sure if there is enough power to do this.....but it's not pulling water to the pump.....is there a chance the impeller fins are going the wrong way?

I'm stumped here guys.....
Thanks

the fins will self correct themselves

connecting muffs and having the line loose from the drive to the pump should have water flowing in the bilge

start by back-flushing the line that goes to the drive. you may have an obstruction.

also check the raw water inlet fitting (where the hose connects to the drive)
