overheating ?

I have a 1972 Johnson 9.5 I am wondering how hot the water should get as it exits the motor. It seems to be hot like a hot coffee, almost enough to burn me, and I wonder if this is normal. I have replaced the thermostat, and the impeller. its quite warm as a rule. how hot is the head?

How hot should the head get? I can touch it , but dont want to press hard, or hold my hand to it for a long time.

If you want to be sure get some temperature sticks. They will tell you if the motor is getting too hot.
