I have a sea eagle 9 (www.seaeagle.com). My max hp is 4hp, but for some reason I would like to go up to a 6 HP. I have been using a 30lb thrust trolling motor previous and I felt like I was crawling in the water. Then last week it was very windy and the boat couldnt beat the current. My question is what adverse effects do I have in overpowering my boat from a 4 to a 6, or maybe even a 8hp. My max transom weight is 45 lbs. Whats the MOST i could overpower to with HP weight.

Yes i know of the liability issue, but what other issues may i face? Will the motor be to heavy and sink me? Im a complete noob and this would be my first outboard.

ALSO: How do I transport this new outboard? My current motor is a 30lb thrust minn kota which I attacth to the transom when I am ready to launch. I can keep it in the back seat no problems. Are there any issues with doing the same for an outboard?

Don't waste your money on a 6hp motor, it will not move that boat any faster than the 4hp and not much faster than the trolling motor you already have. Those hulls have a max speed of about 5mph no matter how much horsepower you put behind them.

i've got the se 9 also. i have a 56lb thrust trolling motor and a 2hp johnson outboard. The e-motor runs the boat very well. The 2hp doesn't move the boat much faster despite being significantly more powerful.

I think you might get some speed from more HP if wind is the problem but on a placid lake I'd have to agree with the previous poster.

Do you have floorboards? Mine goes noticeably faster with them in.

I've got my eye on an old 3.3hp evinrude twin (even though that johnson colt has been GREAT). If I get it I'll post the results.
