Hi guys , I have 1987 triton dynasty with mercruiser 3.0 and alpha outdrive .
I recently installed 17" prop on it (replaced 19") and my engine revs all way up to 5500 rpms and im actuall able to hit same top speed as with 19"(at 4600rpms) about 45 mph . The label on engine says WOT 4200 -4600 rpms . Just wondering if this going to hurt the engine ? it doesnt overheat and oil pressure is in 65 psi range .

Re: overreving??

Yup, put the other prop on before you blow your engine.....
It is the valve train that doesn't like the over revving......
4600 is perfect.......
The only time you might want to use it would be for a little extra hole shot while skiing, but keep it under 4600.....
Keep it for a spare, but put the 19 back on.......;)
Welcome to iboats, btw.......:)

Re: overreving??

Not sure, but if you are not gaining any top end with the 17 why bother?.....
You are out of the engine's (cam's) power band & are not making any extra HP.....
There really is nothing you can do to a 3.0 to significantly increase HP from the stock engine.....
It is what it is......;)
Put a 19 on it & go boating is my advice......:):)
