marine epoxy putty or thicken epoxy glue with wood fiber or fiber class shavings and or micro balloons. all these can be redrilled after and bolted or screwd also I'm told eM 5000 works well.

Re: oversize hole repair

Are these OEM holes, drilled into a Whaleboard or mahogany plywood backing, or are they aftermarket holes just drilled into the inner hull fiberglass?

What year is your Outrage?

I think I have a wood locator diagram of the classic Outrage 18 hull.

Are you using the OEM under-gunnel rod racks as speargun racks?

Need more details and pix, if possible. An Outrage is too great a boat to do chintzy work on. That would be like using bondo on a Mercedes.

Re: oversize hole repair

i'm not sure what OEM holes are.. but the year of the boat is an 85. yes i am using the rod holders as speargun racks. i believe the screws are in the inner hull, there does not seem to be wood around the holes. not sure if they are orginal equipment or not. bought the boat about 5 years ago out of arizona, and have been using it here on the north coast of california. the wood locator diagram would be a big help....thanx in advance

Re: oversize hole repair

PM me your Email addy, Jake I will have to check deep in my files for that wood locator diagram. Assuming I do have it I will Email it to you.

I think the holes for screwing the rod holders go into a wood backing on the '85 Outrage. I had no problem with the rod holders on my '81 and my '83, but here is how I dealt with stripped out holes for the screws that hold the bow rails on:

I drilled out the holes to 1/2".

One one boat I epoxied a piece of 1/2" hardwood dowel into the holes about 1/8" below the gelcoat surface and drilled them to accept one-size-larger-than-original SS wood screws. I then sealed the holes with gelcoat patch.

On the other boat I drilled the 1/2" holes, but instead of hardwood dowel I got some Whaleboard samples and made 1/2"x1/2" plugs and epoxied them in level with the gelcoat. I then drilled and tapped the Whaleboard plugs for 1/4"x20 SS machine screws.

I don't know how well the wood dowel fix worked long term, but short term it was solid. I am sure the Whaleboard plug fix worked because on later BWs all the screws are backed by, and machine screwed into, Whaleboard backing.
