I bought a 2006 mercury 90hp optimax and did not get an owners manual. the seller lost it in a move. does anyone know where I might be able to get one without paying a arm and leg for it. I went by the local dealers and they are no help. all they want to do is sell you a repair manual.
Thanks Bob

Re: Owners Manual Needed

You should have purchased the factory "service manual" as it is far more useful than the "owners manual" -- especially if you will ever attempt any repairs on the engine yourself. If the dealer will not order an owners manual for you, find another dealer and never go back to the one you just visited.

Re: Owners Manual Needed

I disagree in a sense about the service manual vs. the owner's manual.
I try to find a simple owner's manual for every old engine I get. This manual tells you the normal, simple owner-maintenance things that an owner needs to do. Especially one who has no inclination or ability to do repairs.

The service manual often (usually or always in my experience) doesn't have clear and simple normal owner maintenance instructions or schedules.

I actually have both for the three 1990 and earlier engines I own, and both have their purpose. If OP is simply interested in owning and doing simple maintenance, the owner's manual is the best bet.

OP: look on ebay. You may or may not find the actual manual you need, but you might find a path to someone who carries this type of thing and you might be able to find one for cheap.

Re: Owners Manual Needed

I don't want to do major repairs. all I want to do is maintance on the engine. I don't have the space or equipment to do major repaies. A operators manual will tell me all I want and need.
