Owners manual says...

I have a 2001 5.7L GSi that according to the owners manual says to run 89 octane unleaded. If you know Iowa at all we generally have 3 grades of fuel available at about any gas station.

Regular Unleaded-87 octane...no ethanol About $3.72 right now
Unleaded Plus-89-90 octane...10% ethanol About 3.65 right now
Unleaded Premium-91 octane...no ethanol About $3.95 right now

I run Unleaded Plus exclusively in my Tundra but NEVER run ethanol whatsoever in my boats. Question for you guys do i dare run 87oct in it or in your opinion is biting the bullet and always running 91oct a must?

Ayuh,.... Why not run the 89 they call for,..??

I dare . . . but if you want you could do '1/2 and 1/2' with the 87 and the 91 to avoid the ethanol and also make the engine happy.

your boat probably has about a 35 gallon tank. so the difference between the 87 octane and the 91 octane is $8/tank

If you dont want to put ethanol in your boat, yes.

trade you tanks though, mine is 75 gallons:eek:
