Woke up last week in the wee hours felling kinda punky. Felt my pulse and it was hitting 250. Ambulance arrived and was hooked up to monitor, the medics eyes got big and he told the driver to be quick. At the er they had to give me 200 jewels to bring it back down. All i saw was a flash of white and seeing the doc giving me a nod.
I have two new friends now. Its called a duel where you have a pacemaker and a defib package. if my pulse goes over 176 it will give me a shock. Some say it will bring you to your knees. Looks like I am going to have to forget that 55" gator and stick to pooter fishn.

I also have a monitor hooked to the phone line and if I feel a little out of wack i put this wand over pacemaker and it relays it to er or doctors office. Amazing how far we have come in technology Does anyone have one of these critters and has it gone off. No warnings either before it goes off. Just have to monitor your pulse. if you start feeling weird then sit down check your pulse and wait.

Re: Pacemakers Anyone

My S/dad had the full package pacemaker/defib and his has been mostly trouble free. He did have to have a re-installation with new leads after having problems but it is working fine. He has a monitor in his bedroom that reports (Phones home) every night via a wifi signal.

I have another friend whose heartbeat is too slow and he has one. When his heart beat drops below 50/min it steps it up...... his heart problem is too slow?.......

And I had a friend who had also had the whole package deal and one night while we were all relaxing and having a drink it zapped him. It seems that if he got too relaxed it kept going off. A telephone was used to adjust it.

Glad to hear you are still with us!! Just remember when you get wild and the police officer threatens to Tazer you to yell out you have a heart condition!! ;)

Glad you are still with us, GF. Sad to hear that you won't be stalking that 50"er.

A friend has 2 pacemakers and a defib and yes, it does fire off occasionally. It causes him to jerk and let out with some noise. BUT, he's been living with it for years and he's still with us and going strong. The 'firing' can be a bit disconcerting for folks who are seeing it for the first time, but we're used to it now.

One thing he must be careful about is staying clear of RC 'toys'. Otherwise, he lives a pretty normal life

No pacemaker but my heart goes racing, have been hauled out of work several times with 200+ heart rate so know how you feel. One day when I meet my maker it will be all ok

Joules....a measurement of electrical energy. 200 is alot

Many moons ago I ran a call (rural ambulance) on a 40-ish female with a defib package. Everytime that thing hit, she came up off the cot. I had called for an ALS intercept. This cocky young paramedic climbs onboard my truck. I tell him about the defib.....about 20 seconds later it hits, she jumps, and the medic tries to go out the back door at 65 mph!

Ahh, memories.....

Re: Pacemakers Anyone

A couple months ago had a case where an older gentleman (85) got a little too excited on his birthday (Veteran and at a 4th of July meeting and the speaker was relating his stories from Iraq). Never saw a pacemaker hit someone so hard. Tried to get him calm so it wouldn't kick him so much, got him to the hospital, and for as bad as the kick was, it saved his life. I have seen many fire, but none THAT hard. Lifted him off his chair and I got kicked in the groin!

Re: Pacemakers Anyone

Thanks all..Being a retired paramedic I have had to put the clappers on. Its a whole new world when you are on the receiving end. My defib is set at 176. I have been told it will put you to your knees. 200 jewels I have been told is a hard kick but they had to do or I may not have made it. That pooter fishn is a bummer but if you see me when I get a big gater on its best I stay with the blue gills They say my paranoid state of mind will get better as time goes by. I hope so cause I hate to have take my pulse when pursuing the hey nanny and checking my pulse every couple minutes kinda breaks the mood if ya know what I mean.

I have had my pacemaker for about 3 years, I also have the telephone contraption to go with it. My heart just stops and i would pass out. Had three wrecks in two months before anyone figured out what was wrong. It would up that I had to have a career change because of the pacer, it seems that you cannot weld when you have one. I had been welding for 25 years before, Now i bid for the work for our welders. No major change in my life other than the career, I figure I was due for it anyways.
