I have a 1988 Yamaha 200 v6 with what looks to be a newer block because of the ignition system. I would say probably early 1990's.

Saturday I took my boat for a long ride, then stopped at a sand bar for a few hours. When starting the engine to leave I got a bad shock through the steering wheel. My passengers were shocked through the t-top. A bad enough shock to numb my arm.

I popped the cowl, checked some things and tried again 3 more times. Everytime as soon as I started the motor I recieved a bad shock. I have checked all wires and can't find anything bare. I also dont think that 12 volts could hurt me that bad. It seems like something in the ignition is being sent back through the ground and steering cable.

I started the motor at home and now no shock. I also started at night to see if the coils were arking to the block. I did not see anything. Any help is GREATLY appretiated.

most likly a chafed wire in the kill circuit. trace the white wire from the keyswitch back to the motor.
the white wire has about 150 to 250 Volts when the engine is running.
carefully check all grond wire connections as well.

Please let us know what you find. That's a pretty nasty little problem you've got, and I run an aluminum jon boat and would like to know more about this and what you find!
