I have a 14' rivited Aluminum semi-v that is just bare aluminum. I am wanting to paint the bottom like a dark green color. I was just wondering what was the easiest way to do this. Ive heard that you have to wash down the hull with vinegar or something like that. Whats the purpose to that? And what type of paint do i use. I was thinking that i might just use some rustolium from cans but i dont know if i need to use a primer or what. Also is the cold tempature outside going to affect anything as far as painting. I live in Delaware and lately its been pretty warm but i know it will be cold verry soon. My trailor is also mostly aluminum and i will be redoing the bunks and painting that the same way as the boat. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: paint aluminum hull

prep is the key. the aluninum has to be eched, thats what the vinegar does, then prime with zinc chormate primer. then finish coat. rustolem is good. you can spray or roll and tip with a brush.
