Paint color question

Hello everyone,
First of many questions about my 1986 OMC Stringer 400 stern drive….let’s make it an easy one. I’m about to remove the upper and lower unit to change the water pump and inspect the drive shafts. The silver paint is pretty thin on the unit. Does anyone know the correct silver to repaint the unit? How about decals to replace the originals after I paint it?
That’s easy…. I hope.
Thank you!

You may find repop decals on ebay, however you will never find factory replacements as OMC has been out of business for over 25 years.

The paint is close enough to Evinrude silver. However your paint has faded over the past 40 years. So any silver will work

BTW, your stringer is a left over 1984. The factory retooled for the cobra launch in 1985

Scott,
Thank you very much for your reply. You are right, just about any silver works. I cleaned up my drive housings and primed with ZincChromate and painted with silver engine paint from AutoZone. Looks great. Still looking for decals but have bigger problems at the moment. Time for another post.
Thanks again,
Bob
