I've been "Surfing the InterWeb" again and ran across this GREAT site on Paint Gun "How To's" It's got text, Drawings and Videos that completely explain the HVLP spray gun from Start to Finish. If you're considering painting your boat with HVLP and haven't got a lot of experience with the HVLP Spray Gun...I highly recommend that you read and Watch this presentation.

Thanks for finding and posting that. It's been 40 years since I painted cars in my dad's shop so I will need to practice again. Got to get me one of those new fangled gravity feed sprayers.

Thank you! Going to read this a time or three after I get off work tonight, (hard to read that much on a phone screen) that is a lot of information, all I'm sure I'll need; I'm getting ready to do the topside of the Lonestar on Tuesday.

Thanks Woody always good info !
Ok , sprayed some concrete sealer with my old purple h/f gun .. Was having some dripping so I switched to the small touch up gun to finish the water based sealer I was using .. No problems ... Spraying water based polyurethane over that I decided to pick up another 15 dollar hvlp from h/f .. First coat went perfectly .
Cleaned the gun waited a couple hours then shot the next coat .. It could not get the thing to stop dripping .. Stopped emptied it and did another quick cleaning .. Still dripping ... GRRRR !
It looks like it was coming from the back of the tip housing where the needle goes into it .. Could I have damaged the seal at that point somehow during cleaning it ?
Also , on this gun it has the tip which unscrews .. Past that it has a bigger threaded collar that has a plastic piece behind that .... I could not for the life of me figure out how to remove that collar ... It either pulls straight out or unscrews somehow and I couldn't get it to do either one ..
Is there a special tool I need for this ?

The collar is LEFT Hand threaded. It loosens by turning clockwise. I believe it uses a 1/4" allen wrench to loosen it. Look inside the hole and see if it's machined for a allen wrench. If not wrap 3-4 layers of duct tape around it and use Channel Locks on it. Remove the needle as well and use some steel wool on it to make sure it has NO Burrs on it especially at the tip. Make sure the cap is screwed on tight as well. With Low viscosity material sometimes the Cheap Guns DO have a problem with drips. Their machining tolerances aren't all that GREAT!!!! If it continues take it back and get another one and tear the gun down TOTALLY for cleaning prior to any Painting.

Something was telling me left handed threads .. Seems like they would state that in the manual..
But what do ya expect from a 15 dollar gun ..
Thanks Woody !
