OK here it is...I plan on painting the bottom floor of my 12' Alum. Feathercraft after a gluvit application to the seams. Can I use a good automotive primer and a few good ol' spray bombs of Rustolium or Krylon? There will be a wood floor that will take all foot abuse but there will about an 8-9" floor section around the perimeter of the "vessel" that will be exposed, not covered by the wood floor (that's actually the original layout from factory) . I would post pics but she is upside down in the driveway getting all of the duckboat green paint stripped from her sides and belly. I have no problem using marine grade paint if I have to but why spend major coin if I can get the same wear from off the shelf spray paint. After all the paint is stripped (hopefully this weekend) I'll get a bunch of pics and show all what I'm working with. I did find a few major cracks that are fixable after removing the paint but they all should be fixable with JB or alum. braising(SP) rods.

Well with an luminum boat you want to start with Zinc Chromate as a base againjst the aluminum This you can get from Napa in spray bombs :D then pretty much whatever primer/paint you wish . Theres alot of us with Starcrafts who are using Rustoleum and rolling and tipping our paint on.

OK zinc primer from NAPA it is and rustolium spray bomb.... Thanks for the help. I just did some research on my boat and it turns out that what my registration tells me is a 1956 is actually a 1955. Serial numbers don't lie... It's a Feathercraft 13' Skipper and could be bought brand spakin' new in 1955 for $235.00.

There are other feathercraft owners on here Mark ( 69starcraft ) comes to mind pretty quick . He actually went with roll on bedliner inside his hull.

I was going to use the bedliner but a few on here said to stay way due to heat absorption. I was going to paint the inside of the boat a light grey or tan to cut down on the glare from the aluminum. What are your thoughts? It seems that the bed lining is still quite popular for painting the inside of aluminum boats.

I would say if you were going to leave it and not put wood over 90% of it then I wouldnt do the bedliner but since you are doing the wood deck I dont see a problem with it . I am pretty sure you can ctually get the bedliner in colors such as grey as well.

Great! Thanks for the help. I thought you could only get the bedliner in black. Maybe I'll try to find the grey and by a can as a tester.

This Grizzly grip comes in almost any color you could want. It costs more than the stuff I used(3M proffesional undercoat spray cans) but it most likely is tougher and I've been happy with mine.
